Today is the first day of finals! Meaning all that can go wrong will go wrong. I am currently at the Helpdesk shaking as I imagine the hysteria that a student will approach me with eventually. Thus, to save your life and my sanity here a few tips that can with the technological troubles of finals. Turn your computer off and on again The first thing we learn in IT training is that 90% of someone's issues can be solved through turning your computer on and off. There is some really technical explanation for this, but your not here to hear me go on and on. You're here for some witty writing and candid clamor. Google it People say this as a running joke with the Apple Genius Bar, but it's true. Most of the time we Google problems and then just remember how to solve them. MacBooks share common plagues and once you deal with them enough times it looks like you know what you're doing. Back up everything In the midst of finals, accidents happen. People spill tea or coffee on their computers, and the sad thing is that there is probably not enough time to do anything. I highly, highly, highly, HIGHLY, advise you to back up your work as often as you can. If you have a Mac, connect to the iCloud and everything is automatically sent there. All my documents are saved and uploaded as I go. If you have a PC, then stick that flash drive in and keep it there! Keep in mind proportions Right now people are writing trying to save their lives. However, the smallest issues keep occurring because they forget about formatting. Remember that certain fonts don't print well, some symbols may not come out, and remember that you never want a header too close to the edge of the page! These are just the smallest tips I can think of now, so if you have any more share them and help save someone's GPA! |
